What does being psychic really mean?

Being psychic is simply our sixth sense.  People are born with the abilities to see, taste, touch, hear, feel and intuit (as a noun, the term is intuition -- or inner voice).  Just because it cannot be measured, weighed, poked or prodded doesn't mean it does not exist.  Let's remember, not too long ago people thought the earth was flat.   Our point is simply:  Even though we may be unfamiliar with a topic does not mean it isn't real.

We believe being psychic is a gift, but it is natural to everyone, to all races, creeds, and cultures.  Everyone is born with an inner voice -- a calm knowingness.  For some, this voice is loud and clear, while others may dismiss it and gradually quiet its suggestions.

This inner voice is not that of a schizophrenic suggesting obnoxious or immoral
actions, rather it is a radiating voice of comfort and protection making suggestions which are in accordance with our best interests.  This is our sixth sense.  This is the "mystery" of psychic abilities, and yet, it truly is no mystery at all:  It's everyone's own internal knowing.

Although everyone is born with this inner voice, due to fear, unawareness or sometimes personal or religious beliefs, it can be suppressed, diminished and ultimately extinguished in many people.  Considering it's a natural human ability, we also believe everyone can rejuvenate their psychic abilities even if they've shut down their sixth sense their whole life.

While all people have innate psychic abilities, some people have stronger gifts than others.   Just as some people are really good at math, others have an amazing fashion sense, and still others are great at building things:  We all have our strengths and weaknesses.  Some people are REALLY psychic while others are not as much.

Being psychic is much more than just "seeing dead people."  Some people feel those who have passed on while others can hear angels.  Some people can channel Spirit while others have dreams or visions of prophecy.  Being psychic can manifest in diverse ways -- even two people with the same ability to communicate with the deceased may, in fact, communicate and experience their gifts in totally different manners.  For example, one may hear spirits while the other may see spirits.

Just as each person is unique, so is each Psychic Kids' expression of their abilities.  For a list and discussion of the most common types of psychic abilities, we invite you to join us at our free Support Groups

Why is it important for my Psychic Kid to know how to manage their gifts?

Paying attention to our sixth sense assists us to live life more fully by being more aware and more connected to the Divine and to each other.  Honing and developing psychic abilities encourages us to help ourselves in everyday decision-making and, in time, with practice we can help others too.

Being psychic is NOT mind control, nor is it reading other people's thoughts
for entertainment.  As with any talent, it must be respected and explored with clear ethics and boundaries so not to harm others.

In fact, being psychic, we often see, hear and feel things we wish we did not.  This can be a lot of responsibility for a Psychic Kid.  In addition, not being able to talk with anyone about what is occurring results in a most challenging situation.

Many Psychic Kids are becoming depressed, withdrawn, and experiencing shifts in their personality as a by-product of not understanding their psychic abilities and for not having an outlet to explore, normalize and develop these talents.  To the medical community, this can often be mistaken, misinterpreted or misdiagnosed as a "disorder" and treated with prescription drugs.

A clinical misdiagnosis with unnecessary drugs only serves to further isolate and confuse your child, and sometimes makes them think they are "crazy."  By definition, drugs sedate these Psychic Kids and causes their skills to diminish and deaden.  PeeKS Co-Founder Andye imagined herself to be schizophrenic because she was unable to make rational sense of the psychic experiences during her teenage years.  A kind and insightful doctor was able to redirect Andye to a spiritually-inclined psychotherapist who pointed Andye in the right direction to fully understand what was occurring to her.

By knowing what is happening and learning how to channel the energies into something that can help people, Psychic Kids experience an amazing sense of empowerment, ultimately helping themselves and our world at-large!

How can I support my Psychic Kid even if I don't believe in this stuff?

Fear is a natural reaction to the unfamiliar, and sometimes is most healthy.  For example, the energy of fear protects us from life-threatening and physically harmful situations. Fear triggers the "fight or flight" reaction:  Either fight off the danger or get the heck out of there!

In the case of confronting psychic and paranormal phenomena, there typically is no threat to our physical well-being.  However, the ego may sense a threat to its current state, in other words, a threat to one's belief system.

You may not believe, embrace, or even know how to understand what is happening to your Psychic Kid but that does not negate the experiences of your child.

Our children are our greatest teachers.  Allow them to be who they are and to share part of their world with you.  You may discover something about your family -- or yourself -- in the process.
